Moonwalker Update

Finnally, a new update. I feel like it's been a while. So after this semester, this is what I have for the video. There is still one more week but mostly it will just be more backgrounds. Still so much to do but seeing that I started with just that 30 clip, I'm pretty proud of myself. There's a few awkward bits still, like the occasional flashing between scenes. It's an easy fix but I'm to tired and it takes forever to render this thing through. And there's still that giant gap where the space montage is. I'm still really stuck with that part and if anybody is willing to help I would be most grateful.

Major Catching Up

Okay, first off, let me just that things are going on with the Live My Last guys so if there was going to be any design work with them, it not going to be any time soon. Apparently there's something going on with the lead singer and the rest of the band and there's been a break. That's literally all I know for now. And it really sucks cause I just started listening to them and got really excited to be working with them but i guess... oh well. I hope everything works out in the end.

Before I get to what I actually wanted to talk about, there's a few other things I wanted to touch on  really quickly. Ranger Danger and To Kill A Monster played at Victory's two Saturdays ago. Of course it was good. With them were two out of town bands, but neither of them caught my attention. I'm not going to have a post of the photos from that night, because I'm lazy, but they are up in the Photography tab to see. (Okay maybe I'll have a special one for the Jon pic i really liked (also I kinda ran up during Ranger Danger cover of ET and kissed Kyle (giggle)))

To Kill A Monster announced they were hitting the recording studio soon. I'm not sure if they're recording one of the three new songs or all of them but either way I'm excited. Also please help them get in Warped Tour by voting here  http://www.battleofthebands.com/u/tokillamonster

Ranger Danger was in the studio Sunday to record Tiny Spoons. I wasn't able to go so no funny pics or video this time. Can't wait to hear it? Watch the video below.

ON TO THE UP ALL NIGHTS!!!!
It's been a long time since I've seen the guys and I really missed them. I've always felt the most comfortable with them and there shows, (yes even more then Ranger Danger). I 'm sure it's because I've known them for a while but they were one of the first to lead me down the rabbit hole. They welcomed me with open arms and I'll appreciate it until the day I die. It's been fun seeing new bands and making new friends lately but it was nice to return to "home-base" for a change. I really missed having a community around the band that I knew I was a part of and seeing lots of friends I've missed. The Up All Nights were great. Sammy was sick, but I personally don't think it hurt his performance. Jon Grubbs came up and filled in for Sammy for a song. Happily one of my favorites, Ancient Empress.

Lex Vegas of Cadaver Dogs even showed up and did a little drumming at the end. All around a really good time and was definitely the fix I needed. And you guys better not make me wait so long for the next one!!

Moonwalker Clip

It's been up for a couple of days but this is what i've got for the Moonwalker clip i worked on all semester. still need a lot of work but i'm moving on to the rest of the video. as i say in the youtube description I put in some temp coloring and some very basic effects. Over winter break I want to have all of the rest story boarded and focus more on backgrounds

Got new scenes really roughed out and put together. Still lots to do but yay progress!!

More Storyboards and other upates

Got more of the bridge figured out. I actually have a little bit more done, or at lest sketched out and a title up so I'll be posting up those really soon. if not tomorrow. It's been pretty helpful to work in cameos into the story. Oh yeah, I don't think I wrote it down here but I'm working the guys into the story. I liked my Evil Jon and Scientist Kyle from my character design project. I couldn't use Secret Agent Kellan so instead I made him the head of the security squad.  I also figured out ship designs. 

So this is the SS Julien. (If anyone understands what the model code stands for I will give you a prize, like an original drawing or something of that sort.) I went with closer to a retro feel. At first I looked at more of the sleeker longer style but in the end I went closer to the toy rocket style. Even with the color scheme. I wanted to make it smaller too just so it's easier to believe our Captain can run it by himself

We also have the enemy ship C2A111. I wanted it to look like a giant always watching eye.

Lastly I have a possible Title for the beginning. Based off of Ranger Danger's band sticker.

Moonwalker Reference

For my senior thesis, I decided to do an animated music video for the band Ranger Danger. After talking to them, or more Jon, on Friday, he told me he wanted to do Moonwalker, their first new single of the summer, and have it like a motion comic. Unfortunately that's all he told me and has yet to respond to my questioning about details so I am moving on on my own. I've been listening to the track over and over to get a broad idea of what's going on, trying to figure out the lyrics for the plot, and... will deal with character specifics when Jon gets back to me. (not sure if we're going to have the band or original characters). Not even too sure if I'm actually doing the artwork or just animating it. I think it will also be fun because it ties in with motion graphics, which I've recently fell in love with and want to pursue more. Little worried about the 3D elements though, but will deal with that when we get there.
I'm now (as I'm typing this) watching some examples of motion comics because, well I've never actually seen any. So far they seem really interesting and should be a cool beast to tackle. Here are some of the ones I've been looking act

Making Zombies Ate My Neighbors Part 2

oh the fun never ends when you're playing zombie. this is take one of the guys working on the opening to the single. the second take was even funnier because all the guys really started to lose it. Mike even fell to the ground to get away from the mic silently laughing so hard, unfortunately my camera died right at the beginning. oh well.

Making Zombies Ate My Neighbors Part 1

Trying to make zombie noises for the opening of the track. It sounded really good in the end but it was rather fun watching it happen. Who knew you had to get levels on leaves?
